Getting married is one of the most important and memorable moments of your life, so celebrate your special day in an unforgettable destination. From magnificent black sand beaches to the breathtaking mountainous views of the Soufrière Hills volcano, our island is tailor-made for you to say “I Do!”

For non- nationals wishing to get married in Montserrat, a minimum stay of 3 working days in the country is required before an application can be made to obtain a special or Governor’s Marriage License. Applications for the license are made through the Office of the Deputy Governor. It is strongly suggested that contact be made shortly after your arrival so that you can be properly advised.

EACH APPLICANT FOR A
MARRIAGE LICENSE MUST PROVIDE THE
FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION

1. Original Birth Certificate

2. A valid passport

3. Certificate of Non-marriage – If one or both parties has/have never been married, he/she/they must provide this certificate which is obtained from the Registrar’s Office in the city where the parties reside.

4. Decree Nisi or Decree Absolute if applicant is divorced (original or a notarized copy)

5. Death Certificate if applicant is widowed (original or a notarized copy).

6. A written consent from the parents if the applicant is under the age of 18. This consent must be notarized by the Notary Public.

THE FOLLOWING IS THE PROCEDURE
UPON ARRIVAL
IN MONTSERRAT:

A. To be eligible for this license, one of the parties must reside in Montserrat for three (3) working days prior to submitting the completed Marriage License application form.

B. During this 3-day waiting period, the applicants should arrange the time and place of the wedding ceremony with the Registrar or a Minister of Religion. These details must be noted on the marriage application form. Please note the Registrar will inform you on the fees for officiating at the wedding during working hours and outside working hours.

C. After the three (3) working days of residence has been established, the parties should submit the completed Marriage License Application form to the Office of the Deputy Governor (Consular Division), along with the required documents.

D. When the Marriage license has been signed by the Governor, the parties will be notified by telephone.

E. The parties will then be advised to purchase EC$500.00 in Montserrat stamps (fee stipulated by law).
