Filming In Montserrat

Companies interested in filming in Montserrat should make their request to the Montserrat Tourism Division by completing the Filming Registration Application Form below:

    Attach list of equipment for temporary importation of equipment status. List should include quantity, description, serial numbers and value. If equipment will be coming in on separate flights or shipments, please send separate lists that match each airline flight or cargo entry.

    Attach list of incoming vehicles along with make, model, year, license plate number and value. Please note that only vehicles and equipment not readily available in Montserrat will be allowed entry.

    Locations (Scouting and Production)

    Location scouting activities by non-Montserratian companies will need to be registered with the Montserrat Tourism Division (MTD) in advance.
    For Location Scouting: Please attach list of Proposed Locations for Shooting in Montserrat and advise if you are already in contact or need assistance locating these areas. Before Filming Commences: Please forward list of final locations to the Montserrat Tourism Division (MTD).

    (i) Filming in the Hospital is prohibited unless advance approval is granted by the Ministry of Health & Social Services

    (ii) Permission must be sought from the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA), Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) and the Royal Montserrat Police Service (RMPS) if one wishes to film in Plymouth or any other areas in the Exclusion Zone. Please note that the RMPS has established set fees to enter Plymouth, a certified taxi driver and/or tour guide is also a requirement.

    A Certificate of Registration with the Montserrat Tourism Division (MTD) will be issued after Applicant has been satisfactorily vetted and has complied with the following conditions:

    CONDITIONS FOR REGISTRATION APPROVAL

    • The services of a local Montserratian Producer / Coordinator have been retained for the length of Applicant’s stay in Montserrat to handle (or assist) with oversight of the production while in Montserrat. This role is not to be confused with that of a production assistant, driver, hotel manager, tour guide or interview subject.
    • Depending on the nature of the production, copies of insurance polices will be requested.
    • Project content has been determined to not be detrimental to the image of the country of Montserrat or its’ people.
    • Whenever feasible, and having due regard to the extent to which prices are competitive and resources on island, applicant should use personnel, equipment and any other services available in Montserrat.
    • The Montserrat Tourism Division (MTD) has received the following items in a timely fashion. (Approx. 2 weeks before arrival)
      • A complete list of all personnel arriving in Montserrat along with flight and passport information.
      • A complete list of all the incoming equipment along with accompanying serial #s and value information.
      • A complete list of any other incoming items for production that do not fall under the category of personnel and equipment but may require duty exemption or special permits.
    • The Montserrat Tourism Division (MTD) MUST receive a list of all the locations to be used in the shoot and a copy of the permissions obtained BEFORE shooting/filming commences!

    NOTES

    • All filming requests for permits or location uses for other Montserrat Government departments or statutory bodies should be filtered through the Montserrat Tourism Division.
    • All Equipment used and all activities associated with filming shall comply with Montserrat Environmental Protection Act and any other applicable laws of Montserrat.
    • Applicants and their crew shall observe all the Laws of Montserrat during their stay in Montserrat.
    • Filming activities are to be carried out with consideration for members of the local community at all times (in particular those directly affected by filming activities).
    • At the cessation of filming, the Applicant will be expected to repair all damage, remove all rubbish and restore the location to its original condition prior to filming and to the satisfaction of Montserrat Tourism Division (MTD).
    • A copy of this MTD Certificate of Registration is to be kept on set at all times and made available for inspection upon request by local authorities.
    • Recognition/ Acknowledgment should be given when contractually possible to the Montserrat Tourism Division (MTD) in production credits.
    • The Montserrat Tourism Division (MTD) may request still photography for future promotional use during filming.
    • One copy of the finished product is to be forwarded to the Montserrat Tourism Division (MTD) for our archives.
