Driving on Montserrat
Although you are not likely to get lost in Montserrat (at least not for long!), it's advisable to have a map of the island if you're driving here for the first time. There's basically one main road running from the north, down each side of the island (west coast and east coast). These main roads are surprisingly long, because of their many steep hills, twists and turns. All routes to places of interest are approached via these main roads, or off one of their many turnings. Most addresses don't have street names or house numbers, but just ask anyone to direct you. There are no traffic lights but a few zebra pedestrian crossings (without beacons), so look out for them please. Remember to respect the signs and closed gates that indicate the boundaries of the Exclusion Zone.

Drivers License
A local drivers license is necessary if you plan to drive in Montserrat. You can apply for this at your port of entry or at the Police Headquarters at Brades or in Salem. The cost is EC$50 (US$19) and you will need to produce your valid drivers license from your country of origin.

There are only two petrol stations on the island, so ensure that your tanks are topped up before going exploring.

Bicycle Rentals
Why not rent a bike and explore Montserrat on two wheels! Take the main road that runs from one end of the island to the other and you'll find that its a fun way of exploring the villages and enjoying the lovely scenery that makes Montserrat the undisclosed treasure it is. Public Transportation
To get around on Montserrat by public transportation, there is a choice of taxis, or minibuses. Taxis and minibuses have green license plates beginning with 'H'. You can hail a taxi or a minibus as it passes, but there are no scheduled times and no official stops. These vehicles usually stick to the main road, and it's largely a daytime service with very few running in the evening.
