The Magic of Montserrat
![]() |
A 15-minute flight from Antigua is the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean, Montserrat. Famous for its Soufrière Hills Volcano, Montserrat offers the ideal setting for a unique vacation. The active-minded can hike one of the nine (9) world class nature trails, explore one of the thirty (30) dive sites, or laze on one of the secluded beaches free of harassment. A close-up view of the volcano is also a must – whether from Jack Boy Hill or the Montserrat Volcano Observatory. World class events such as St. Patrick’s Week (a testament to the island’s Irish connections) in mid-March, Calabash Festival in July, Open Fishing Tournament in October and Festival (Carnival) in December are also main draws for visitors. Montserrat boasts a number of luxury villas, intimate guesthouses, apartments and hotels that are quite affordable. There are no fast food chains, so meals are mainly taken in warm, family run restaurants, ranging from the casual to elegant. A drink in one of the many bars and rum shops, which offer Montserratian hospitality and a laid-back atmosphere, is also a must.
