![]() | AUGUST 2010 ISSUE Montserrat to Exhibit at the British Birdwatching Fair The birdlife of Montserrat, as well as its wide array of other fauna and flora, will be showcased at this year’s British Birdwatching Fair. The Fair is the world’s first and largest international birdwatching event, which saw 23,000 visitors in 2009, and will be held at the Egleton Nature Reserve in Rutland from August 20-22, 2010. Montserrat will be represented by well-known nature tour guide James “Scriber” Daley, whose presence is being sponsored by the Montserrat Tourist Board (MTB). Geoff Saltmarsh and Joanna Walding of the MTBs UK public relations company, The Saltmarsh Partnership, will be assisting "Scriber" at the Fair. The Montserrat Centre Hills Field Guide will be on sale, and its author Steve Holliday will also be on hand to support the Montserrat team. Information on birding on Montserrat, other nature adventure tours, and general tourism information will be given out. A competition to win a copy of Sir Trevor McDonald’s ‘Secret Caribbean’ DVD, which includes coverage of Montserrat, will also be held. The Montserrat stand at the Fair (Marquee 6, Stand 10) will be a combined one, with neighbouring island Dominica sharing the space. A full week of exciting events is being planned and will run from December 26th, 2010 to the January 1st 2011. For registration information, updates and other details contact Nathalie Weekes at 664 495 2727 or go to www.mssreunion.comCTO Conducts Taxi and Tour Guides Training The Montserrat Tourist Board (MTB), in conjunction with the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), has started a training programme for taxi drivers, tour guides and tour operators. The programme began on Monday August 16th at the Lookout Community Centre and will end on Friday August 20th 2010. Mrs. Bonita Morgan, Director of Human Resources of the Barbados-based CTO, and who is also a highly qualified trainer, is serving as the facilitator for the training. The content of the programme covers customer service excellence, as well as the honing of tour guiding techniques, delivering quality service and improving communication skills. “This training programme is part of the overall efforts at the MTB aimed at improving the skills of frontline personnel working in the tourism sector, so that they can continue to offer the high quality of customer service and friendliness that Montserrat is known for,” said Director of Tourism, Ms. Ernestine Cassell.
