Not a diver and you don’t care to be? No problem! Some of the most fantastic marine life and corals are in shallow water. You can spend hours viewing the underwater splendor from the water’s surface. Put on your mask, snorkel and fins and you are ready to explore! If you are planning to purchase your equipment before you arrive contact your local dive operator for a professional fitting. Haven’t brought any gear with you? Our dive operators can supply you with rental equipment or items for purchase. You may wish to consider a wetsuit or dive skin to protect you from the sun. These are also available for rent or purchase. Would you like to take home treasures of your underwater experience in Montserrat? Ask our dive operators about camera rentals or underwater video opportunities.

Rendezvous Bay Reef, just off our only white sand beach, is one of the premier snorkel sites. The site offers a shallow reef in calm waters with healthy and lively coral formations. Snorkelers can experience the beauty of stingrays and turtles in these shallow depths or take a swim into the Bat Cave, which is home to hundreds or protected fruit bats.

Off Bunkum Bay is an interesting reef on the shelf slope the depth of which is between 90 to 140 feet. Bunkum Bay proper consists of mostly sandy bottom with some scattered boulders - a good place for snorkelers. North of Bunkum Bay, under the cliffs of Virgin Island is a large reef region consisting of huge boulders and rocky ledges, and extends into the bay adjacent to Soldiers Ghaut. The boulder field under the cliff can be reached from Soldier Ghaut by snorkelers. It is one of the most rewarding snorkeling sites on Montserrat.

Other popular snorkelling sites include Woodlands Beach and Little Bay Beach.
