EmailThe Montserrat Tourist Board as part of its Tourism Development Plan Phase II (TDPII) provided skills training for more than 152 persons in the tourism industry from 2009 in the areas of Guest Relations, Food and Beverage Service, Basic Food Preparation, Housekeeping, Cake and Pastry Making, and Taxi and Tour Guide Training.

EmailThe National Museum of Montserrat located in Little Bay opened its doors to the public on Friday March 2nd 2012, some eight months after work commenced. The building was officially opened to a large crowd by TRH Prince and Princess Edward, the Earl and Countess of Wessex.

EmailThe Department of Culture launches its Official Logo Competition for the 50th (Golden Jubilee) Anniversary of Montserrat’s Annual Festival, to be held during December 2012 at Festival City, Montserrat. The deadline for all submissions will be 4pm on 27th February 2012. The winning design will appear in some form on all promotional materials for the Festival. This includes posters, mugs, programs, trophies, and the coveted ‘Official Festival T-shirts'. The winner will receive EC$1500, a T-shirt with the winning design.

EmailA new Ferry Schedule will take effect from Thursday, March 1st to Saturday, March 31st 2012. The schedule will cover three (3) days - Monday, Friday and Saturday. On Mondays the Ferry will depart Antigua at 8:00am, arrive Montserrat at 10:00am, depart Montserrat at 4:00pm arrive Antigua 6:00pm. The ferry will again depart Antigua at 6:30pm and arrive into Montserrat at 8:30pm. On Fridays, the Ferry will depart Montserrat at 8:00am and arrive Antigua at 10:00am, depart Antigua 5:30pm and arrive into Montserrat at 7:30pm. On Saturdays the ferry will depart Montserrat at 6:00am and arrive Antigua at 8:00am, depart Antigua 5:30pm, arrive Montserrat 7:30pm.

The week-long St Patrick’s Festival provides a rich mix of Irish and African heritage, with some traditional Caribbean entertainment, making this one of Montserrat’s most popular annual events.

EmailThe first place at this year’s Volcano Half Marathon race, hosted by the Montserrat Running Club on 26th November 2011, was won by Antigua runner Andre Simon in a time of 1:35:29. Second place was taken by Simon’s teammate and returning runner, Germain Brann (1:41:38, Antigua), and third place went to Montserrat’s Omar Jarrett (1:45:20), who won last year’s Fun Run race. In all, 20 athletes took part in this year’s race with 19 finishing, all in very respectable time for the gruelling 13.1-mile course. More than half of the runners had travelled to Montserrat from overseas especially to take part in what has become one of Montserrat’s most prestigious events.

Developed by Lavabits in collaboration with the Montserrat Tourist Board, this application is available on all major smartphone operating systems which include users of the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and is only compatible with iOS 3.1.2 or later for these electronic devices.
